Trigger.dev

Open-source TypeScript background jobs

Free tier + paidAutomation & background jobstrigger.dev

What it is

Write background tasks as plain TypeScript functions inside your repo; the SDK handles queueing, retries, checkpointing and long-running execution with no timeouts. Apache-2.0 licensed and self-hostable. Realtime hooks stream run status straight into a React UI.

Why it earns a slot

The obvious choice for a Next.js app that needs a job to run for ten minutes when Vercel functions cap out. npx trigger.dev@latest dev gives local development against production infrastructure with almost no config.

Know before you commit

Billing is per second of compute, so a task idling on a slow API still bills unless you use the wait primitives. The free tier keeps logs for only one day, which makes debugging yesterday's failure impossible.
