Implement SEO and GEO best practices

about 15 minBuildingchecked 2h agoOfficial page
The short version

Lovable helps your app show up better in search engines like Google and AI search tools like ChatGPT. It does this by checking your app for common issues and suggesting fixes to improve its visibility.

Anyone who wants their Lovable app to be easily found by customers through search engines or AI tools needs this feature before or after launching their app.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Go to 'More' in your project's toolbar, then select 'SEO & AI search'.

This is where all the tools for improving your app's search visibility are located.

  2. 2

Click 'Scan project' (or 'Scan again' if you've done it before) to start an audit.

This will check your app for common problems that prevent it from showing up in search results.

  3. 3

Look at the 'Failing' issues listed at the top of the report.

These are the most important problems to fix to improve your app's search performance.

  4. 4

For each failing issue, click 'Try to fix' or click 'Try to fix all' to let Lovable automatically apply fixes.

Lovable can often correct these issues for you with a single click, saving you time.

  5. 5

If your app isn't public yet, publish it.

Many important checks, like how fast your page loads or how accessible it is, only work on a live, public version of your app.

  6. 6

Run the scan again after publishing or after Lovable applies fixes.

This confirms that the issues have been resolved and reveals new checks that are only available for public apps.

  7. 7

If the scan suggests setting up Google Search Console, click 'Try to fix' to connect it, verify your site, and submit your sitemap.

This helps Google understand and list your app more effectively. Make sure your latest changes are published before submitting the sitemap.

  8. 8

Connect your own custom web address (domain) if you haven't already.

Using your own domain helps build your brand and search presence, making it easier for people to find you.

  9. 9

Use the 'Research SEO with Lovable' section to ask questions about keywords, competitors, or content ideas.

This tool uses live data to help you plan your strategy for attracting more visitors.

Paste this into your project

Lovable, please help me optimize my app for search engines and AI. I've opened the 'SEO & AI search' tab. Can you scan my project, tell me what to fix, and then help me connect Google Search Console and my custom domain?

Words decoded

SEO
Search Engine Optimization. This is about making your app easy for traditional search engines like Google or Bing to find and show to people.
AEO
Answer Engine Optimization. This is about making your app easy for AI search tools like ChatGPT or Perplexity to find information from and use in their answers.
Sitemap
A list of all the important pages on your app that you want search engines to know about. It's like a table of contents for search engines.
Meta tags
Hidden pieces of information on your web pages that describe what the page is about. Search engines use these to understand your content.
Structured data
A special way to organize information on your page so search engines can easily understand specific details, like a product's price or a recipe's ingredients, and show them in rich search results.
Open Graph images
The images that appear when someone shares a link to your app on social media, like Facebook or Twitter. These make your shared links look more professional and inviting.
robots.txt
A small file on your app that tells search engine robots which parts of your site they are allowed to look at and which parts they should ignore.
Google Search Console (GSC)
A free tool from Google that helps you monitor your app's performance in Google Search results, identify issues, and submit your sitemap.
Semrush
A popular tool that helps businesses research keywords, analyze competitors, and improve their online visibility.
Custom domain
Your own unique web address, like 'yourcompany.com', instead of using a shared address provided by Lovable.
Lighthouse checks
A tool that measures the quality of web pages, including performance, accessibility, and search engine optimization.

Where people get stuck

  • Expecting your app to be indexed by search engines if it's not publicly published or if you're using a temporary Lovable workspace URL.
  • Forgetting to publish your app's latest changes before submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console, which means new pages won't be included.
  • Not re-running the SEO & AI search review after making changes or publishing, which means the results might be out of date.
  • Ignoring 'high-impact' issues, as these can completely prevent your app from appearing in search results.
