Two-factor authentication (2FA)

about 5 minBuildingchecked 44h agoOfficial page
The short version

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Lovable account by requiring a one-time code when you log in, in addition to your password or other login method. This protects your account even if someone gets your password.

Anyone with a Lovable account should set this up to protect their projects and data, especially if they share projects or billing with others.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Go to your Account settings, then find the Security section.

This is where all your personal account security options are located.

  2. 2

    Enable the Two-factor authentication option.

This starts the process of adding extra security to your login.

  3. 3

Choose how you want to get your one-time codes: either through an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator) or by text message to your phone.

This sets up the 'second factor' that will provide the unique code needed to log in.

  4. 4

Follow the on-screen instructions to link your chosen method (app or phone) to your Lovable account.

This completes the setup, making sure your account can generate or receive the codes.

  5. 5

Click 'Verify & Enable' to confirm your choice.

This finalizes the 2FA setup, making it active for all future logins.

Paste this into your project

Please set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for my Lovable account. I will go to Account settings > Security, enable 2FA, choose an authenticator app or phone (SMS) for verification, and follow the on-screen steps to link it. Then I will click 'Verify & Enable'.

Words decoded

Two-factor authentication (2FA)
An extra security step that asks for a unique, temporary code (like one from an app or text message) in addition to your password when you log in. It's like needing both a key and a special code to open a door.
Authenticator app
A special application on your smartphone (like Google Authenticator or Authy) that generates unique, time-sensitive codes you use to log in when 2FA is enabled.
SSO
Single Sign-On, a way to log into many different applications using just one set of login details, often provided by your company or school.

Where people get stuck

  • Do not rely on only one 2FA method; if you lose access to it (e.g., lost phone), you might get locked out of your account. Always try to have at least two methods set up.
  • Remember that Lovable does not provide backup or recovery codes; your enrolled methods are the only way to complete 2FA. If you lose access to all methods, you'll need to contact support with proof of ownership.
  • Be aware that if a workspace you belong to requires 2FA, you won't be able to use that workspace until you set it up for your account.
