Organize projects in folders
You can organize your Lovable projects into folders to keep your workspace tidy and find things easily. This helps group related projects together, making navigation simpler.
Anyone with many Lovable projects who wants to keep them organized and easy to find.
Do this, in order
- 1
Go to the 'Projects' page in Lovable.
This is where all your projects are listed and where you can manage them.
- 2
Select 'New folder'.
This starts the process of creating a new organizational folder.
- 3
Give your folder a name (up to 50 characters, no special symbols like / \ : * ? " < > |) and choose a color for its icon.
A clear name helps you identify the folder's contents, and a color can make it stand out.
- 4
Decide if the folder should be 'Workspace' (visible to everyone in your team) or 'Personal' (visible only to you and people you invite).
This controls who can see and access the projects inside the folder. 'Personal' folders are for Business and Enterprise plans.
- 5
Select 'Create folder'. If it's a 'Personal' folder, you'll first select 'Continue', add people or groups to share it with, and then 'Create folder'.
This finalizes the folder creation and sets up its initial sharing permissions.
- 6
To add projects, open the folder and select 'Add projects', or drag project cards onto the folder, or use the 'Move to folder' option from a project's menu.
This puts your existing projects into the new folder, organizing them as you intended.
- 7
To move a project using chat, type a prompt like 'Move this project to my Marketing folder.' in your project's chat.
This is a quick way to organize projects using natural language without navigating menus.
Paste this into your project
Move this project to my [Folder Name] folder.
Words decoded
- Command palette
- A quick search bar that lets you find and open projects or other items by typing their names, usually accessed with a keyboard shortcut.
- Workspace owner, admin, editor, viewer, collaborator
- These are different roles with varying levels of access and control within your Lovable team. Owners have the most power, viewers can only look, and collaborators have limited access to specific projects.
- Visibility
- This refers to who can see and access a folder or project. It can be set to 'Workspace' (everyone in your team) or 'Personal' (only you and specific invited people).
- Subfolder
- A folder placed inside another folder, allowing for deeper organization, like having 'Marketing' inside 'Projects'.
Where people get stuck
- Folders cannot be created or managed on the Lovable mobile app; use a desktop browser.
- Folders can only be nested up to 3 levels deep.
- You cannot create a subfolder if the parent folder is already 3 levels deep or if someone else shared the folder with you.
- Changing a folder's visibility will automatically change the visibility of all projects inside it, potentially restricting or granting access to many people.
- Removing a project from a folder does not change its visibility; it keeps the visibility it had while in the folder.
