Connect your app to Telegram

about 10 minBuildingchecked 2d agoOfficial page
The short version

You can connect your Lovable app to Telegram to send and receive messages through a Telegram bot. This lets your app automate tasks like sending notifications, responding to user messages, and guiding users through workflows directly within Telegram.

Anyone building an app with Lovable who wants their app to interact with users or groups on Telegram.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Open Telegram and find '@BotFather' or go to t.me/BotFather.

BotFather is Telegram's official tool for creating and managing bots, which your Lovable app will use to communicate.

  2. 2

Send the command '/newbot' to BotFather and follow the instructions to create a new bot, choosing a display name and a username ending in 'bot'.

This creates your unique Telegram bot that your Lovable app will control.

  3. 3

Copy the 'bot token' that BotFather provides; it looks like a long string of numbers and letters.

This token is like a password for your bot and is needed to connect it to Lovable.

  4. 4

Go to the 'Connectors' section in your Lovable dashboard and select 'Telegram'.

This is where you manage all external services connected to your Lovable workspace.

  5. 5

Click 'Add connection', give your connection a display name (like 'My App Telegram Bot'), and paste the bot token you copied earlier.

This tells Lovable which Telegram bot to use and gives it a recognizable name within your Lovable account.

  6. 6

Choose who can use this connection by either keeping it private, sharing with specific workspace members, or inviting your entire workspace.

This controls who in your team can use this Telegram bot connection in their Lovable projects.

  7. 7

Click 'Connect' to finalize the setup.

Lovable will then verify the bot token and establish the connection, making your Telegram bot ready for use in your apps.

Paste this into your project

Connect my app to Telegram. I want to send and receive messages through a Telegram bot. I have my bot token ready.

Words decoded

bot token
A unique secret code that acts like a password for your Telegram bot, allowing Lovable to control it.
webhook
A special internet address that Telegram calls automatically whenever your bot receives a new message, so your Lovable app can react to it.
connector gateway
Lovable's secure system that handles the technical details of connecting your app to external services like Telegram, including managing your bot token.

Where people get stuck

  • Sharing your bot token publicly, as it functions like a password and could allow unauthorized control of your bot.
  • Using the same bot token in multiple Lovable projects if you need to receive messages, as only one project can receive messages from a bot at a time.
  • Forgetting that Telegram's own rules and limits still apply, even when using Lovable.
  • Not having the correct permissions in your Lovable workspace to create new connections, especially on Enterprise plans where this might be turned off by default.
