Connect your app to Resend

about 10 minBuildingchecked 2d agoOfficial page
The short version

You can connect your Lovable app to Resend to send emails like order confirmations or newsletters from your own verified domain. This lets your app send emails as part of its normal functions, using your Resend account.

Anyone building an app that needs to send emails for things like confirmations, notifications, or marketing campaigns will need this.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Sign in to your Resend account and go to the API Keys section.

You need an API key to allow Lovable to securely connect to your Resend account.

  2. 2

Create a new API key, give it a name like 'Lovable integration', and choose 'Sending access' if you only need to send emails, or 'Full access' if you also want to read domain or email status.

This key will be used by Lovable to perform actions in your Resend account, so choosing the right permissions is important for security and functionality.

  3. 3

Copy the API key immediately after creation, as Resend only shows it once.

You will need this key in the next step to connect Resend to Lovable.

  4. 4

In Lovable, go to 'Connectors', select 'Resend', and click 'Add connection'.

This starts the process of linking your Resend account to your Lovable workspace.

  5. 5

Give your connection a display name (e.g., 'Resend Prod') and paste the Resend API key you copied earlier into the 'API Key' field.

The display name helps you identify this connection in Lovable, and the API key authenticates Lovable with Resend.

  6. 6

Choose who can use this connection within your Lovable workspace, either keeping it private, sharing with specific members, or with the entire workspace.

This controls who in your team can use this Resend connection in their Lovable projects.

  7. 7

Click 'Connect' to finalize the connection.

Lovable will verify the API key and establish the connection to your Resend account.

  8. 8

Make sure you have a verified sending domain in your Resend account.

Resend will only send emails from domains you have verified, and this is crucial for emails to reach recipients other than yourself.

  9. 9

When you prompt Lovable to send an email, specify the 'from' address using your verified domain (e.g., 'hello@mydomain.com').

This ensures your app uses the correct, verified sender address for all emails.

Paste this into your project

Connect to Resend using my API key 're_YOUR_API_KEY_HERE' and call this connection 'My Resend Account'. I want to send emails from 'hello@mydomain.com'.

Words decoded

API key
A secret code that acts like a password, allowing one computer program (like Lovable) to securely access and use the features of another program (like Resend) on your behalf.
Transactional emails
Automated emails sent to individual users based on their actions or specific events, such as order confirmations, password resets, or shipping notifications.
Marketing emails
Emails sent to a group of people to promote products, services, or share news, like newsletters or promotional campaigns.
Verified domain
A website address (like 'yourcompany.com') that you have proven you own or control to an email service, which allows you to send emails that appear to come from that address.
App + chat connector
A special connection in Lovable that can be used both when you're building your app by chatting with Lovable, and by your finished app when it's running.

Where people get stuck

  • Forgetting to copy your Resend API key immediately after creation, as it's shown only once.
  • Using a Resend API key with insufficient permissions (e.g., 'Sending access' when 'Full access' is needed to read email status).
  • Attempting to send emails to real recipients from an unverified domain in Resend, as these emails will not be delivered.
  • Not specifying the 'from' email address with a verified domain when prompting Lovable, leading to delivery issues.
  • Not having permission to create connections in your Lovable workspace, which prevents you from setting up Resend.
  • Expecting the Lovable Resend connector to verify your sending domain or configure DNS records for you; this must be done directly in Resend.
