Connect your app to QuickBooks

about 10 minBuildingchecked 11h agoOfficial page
The short version

Connect your Lovable app to QuickBooks to work with your company's financial data like customers, invoices, and payments. This lets you build apps that track finances, manage invoices, or create new accounting records.

Workspace owners or admins need this when they want to build apps that interact with QuickBooks Online accounting data.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Go to 'Connectors' in your Lovable workspace and select 'QuickBooks'.

This is where you manage all your connections to external services.

  2. 2

    Click 'Add connection'.

This starts the process of setting up a new link to QuickBooks.

  3. 3

Give your connection a name, like 'QuickBooks Prod', in the 'Display name' field.

This name helps you identify this specific QuickBooks connection within Lovable.

  4. 4

Choose 'Production' if you're connecting to a live QuickBooks company, or 'Sandbox' for a test environment.

This tells Lovable which type of QuickBooks account to connect to. You can leave 'Company ID' blank.

  5. 5

Decide who can use this connection: keep it private, share with specific members by email, or share with everyone in your workspace.

This controls access to the QuickBooks data for other people building apps in your Lovable workspace.

  6. 6

Click 'Connect', then sign in to Intuit, choose the QuickBooks company, and approve the requested access.

This authorizes Lovable to access your QuickBooks Online data, and you'll be redirected back to Lovable once it's done.

Paste this into your project

Use QuickBooks and build a dashboard that shows revenue, open invoices, overdue balances, and recent payments.

Words decoded

OAuth
A secure way for one service (like Lovable) to get permission to access your information on another service (like QuickBooks) without sharing your password.
API
A set of rules and tools that allows different software programs to talk to each other and share information.
Sandbox
A safe, isolated testing environment that mimics a real system, allowing you to experiment without affecting your actual live data.
Webhooks
An automated message sent from one app to another when a specific event happens, like a notification.
Quota/Rate Limits
Restrictions on how many times or how fast your app can ask for information from another service, to prevent overuse.

Where people get stuck

  • Trying to connect to QuickBooks Desktop, as only QuickBooks Online is supported.
  • Not having the correct Intuit account access or being a workspace owner/admin, which prevents you from setting up the connection.
  • Expecting real-time notifications or webhooks from QuickBooks through this connector, as it does not support them.
  • Attempting to bypass Intuit's own API limits or billing, which are still enforced by Intuit.
  • Assuming each app user can log into their own QuickBooks account; this connection is for a single QuickBooks company shared across projects.
  • Forgetting that if QuickBooks authorization is revoked, the connection will stop working until reconnected in Lovable.
