MCP registries

The short version

MCP registries let your team easily find and connect to approved AI tools without manually typing in website addresses. Your workspace owner or admin sets up this directory once, and then everyone can pick the tools they need.

Anyone who wants to make it easier for their team to connect to a curated list of AI tools should use this feature.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Make sure your workspace allows 'Remote MCP connectors' in the Privacy & security settings.

This setting must be on for the MCP registries section to appear and function.

  2. 2

Get the website address (URL) of the MCP registry you want to add, and if it needs one, a 'bearer token' for authentication.

You need this information to tell Lovable where to find the registry and how to access it.

  3. 3

Go to 'Connectors' in your Lovable dashboard, scroll to the bottom, and find the 'MCP registries' section.

This is where you'll add and manage your registries.

  4. 4

Click 'Add registry' or the '+' button, then 'MCP registry', and fill in the registry's website address and optional display name. If required, also add the 'bearer token'.

This step registers the directory of AI tools with your Lovable workspace.

  5. 5

Click 'Connect' and then 'Browse + add server' on the new registry's card to see the list of available AI tools.

This lets you explore the tools listed in the registry.

  6. 6

Find an AI tool you want to use and click 'Connect' next to it.

This starts the process of adding that specific tool to your personal connections.

  7. 7

Choose how to log in (usually 'OAuth' or 'Bearer token/API key') and then click 'Add & authorize' or 'Add server'.

This connects the AI tool to your Lovable account, making it available for your projects.

Paste this into your project

I need to add an MCP registry to my Lovable workspace. The registry URL is `https://api.example.com/v0/servers`. It doesn't require a bearer token. Please add it so my team can browse and connect servers from it.

Words decoded

MCP (Model Context Protocol)
A standard way for different AI tools to talk to each other and share information.
MCP registry
A special directory that lists many different MCP servers (AI tools) that you can connect to.
Chat connectors
Tools or services that you connect to Lovable so they can provide information or actions within your project chats.
Bearer token
A secret code that acts like a key, proving your identity to a service so it lets you in.
OAuth
A common and secure way for you to give one service (like Lovable) permission to use another service (like an AI tool) on your behalf, without sharing your password directly.
API key
A unique code that identifies you or your application when you use a service, similar to a password but often for programmatic access.
URL
The web address for a specific page or service on the internet, like 'https://example.com'.

Where people get stuck

  • You must have a 'workspace owner' or 'admin' role to add, change, or remove registries.
  • You need 'editor' role or higher to connect a server from a registry; viewers and collaborators can only browse.
  • If 'Remote MCP connectors' are turned off in your workspace's privacy settings, you won't see the MCP registries section.
  • Each registry URL can only be added once per workspace.
  • Servers connected from a registry always use a direct connection; if you need to connect to a server behind a firewall that requires specific Lovable IP addresses, you must add it by its URL directly, not through a registry.
