Connect your app to Linear

about 5 minBuildingchecked 44h agoOfficial page
The short version

Connect your Lovable app to Linear to create and update issues, read project data, and build workflows. This lets your app interact directly with your team's Linear workspace for tasks like bug reporting or sprint dashboards.

Anyone building an app that needs to interact with Linear for project management, issue tracking, or task automation.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Go to 'Connectors' in your Lovable workspace and select 'Linear'.

This is where you manage all external service connections for your apps.

  2. 2

    Click 'Add connection'.

This starts the process of setting up a new link between Lovable and Linear.

  3. 3

Give your connection a clear name, like 'Linear (Production)' in the 'Display name' field.

A good name helps you identify this specific connection later, especially if you have multiple.

  4. 4

Optionally, expand 'Advanced settings' to review or change the permissions (scopes) Lovable will request from Linear.

You should only grant the permissions your app truly needs. 'Read' and 'Write' are usually selected by default for common tasks.

  5. 5

Click 'Connect', then in the Linear authorization window, choose the workspace you want to link and click 'Allow'.

This authorizes Lovable to access your Linear account with the specified permissions, completing the connection process.

Paste this into your project

Connect my Lovable app to Linear so I can create and update issues, read project and team data, and build issue tracking workflows. I want to build an internal bug reporter that creates a Linear issue when a user submits a report.

Words decoded

OAuth
A secure way for one service (like Lovable) to get permission to use information from another service (like Linear) on your behalf, without sharing your password.
Scopes
Specific permissions you grant to an app, like allowing it to 'read issues' or 'create comments' in Linear. You control what the app can and cannot do.
Workspace
In Linear, this is your team's dedicated area where all projects, issues, and team members are organized.

Where people get stuck

  • Connecting Linear makes your Linear data accessible to all users in your Lovable workspace, so ensure you understand the implications.
  • If your browser blocks pop-ups, you might not see the Linear authorization window when you click 'Connect'.
