Connect your app to GoodData

about 10 minBuildingchecked 2h agoOfficial page
The short version

You can connect your Lovable app to GoodData Cloud to use your existing business data and metrics. This lets your app browse your GoodData information and run data queries without recreating calculations.

Anyone who needs their Lovable app to display or analyze data already managed in GoodData Cloud.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Sign in to your GoodData Cloud organization.

You need to access your GoodData account to create an API token.

  2. 2

Go to 'Settings', then in the 'Developer' section, click 'Manage' next to 'Personal access tokens'.

This is where you create new API tokens for your GoodData account.

  3. 3

Click '+ Create', give the token a name like 'Lovable', and click 'Create'.

This generates a new API token that Lovable will use to connect to GoodData.

  4. 4

    Copy the generated API token.

You will need this token to paste into Lovable's connection form.

  5. 5

Open 'Connectors' in Lovable and select 'GoodData', then click 'Add connection' and choose 'App + chat connector'.

This opens the form where you will set up the connection between Lovable and GoodData.

  6. 6

Enter your GoodData Cloud URL (e.g., 'https://yourorg.cloud.gooddata.com') and paste the API token you copied.

These details allow Lovable to securely identify and connect to your specific GoodData organization.

  7. 7

Choose who can use this connection by either keeping it private, sharing with specific members, or inviting your entire workspace.

This controls who in your Lovable workspace can access and use this GoodData connection in their projects.

  8. 8

    Click 'Connect'.

Lovable will verify your details and establish the connection to GoodData.

Words decoded

GoodData Cloud organization
This is your specific account or setup within GoodData's online service, where all your data, metrics, and reports are stored.
API token
A special, secret code that acts like a password, allowing Lovable to securely access your GoodData account on your behalf.
Semantic layer
A shared set of definitions for how your data is measured and presented, ensuring everyone uses the same understanding for things like 'revenue' or 'active accounts'.
Metrics
Specific measurements or calculations, like 'monthly revenue' or 'number of active users', that your team has already defined in GoodData.
Attributes
Ways to categorize or group your data, such as 'region', 'product type', or 'customer segment'.
Workspaces
Separate areas within your GoodData organization where different sets of data, metrics, and reports are stored, often used for different teams or projects.

Where people get stuck

  • Do not use a GoodData API token that belongs to an admin user, as this gives your app too much power and could allow unintended changes.
  • Do not put your API token in a prompt, chat message, or your app's code; only paste it into the secure connection form in Lovable.
  • Ensure the GoodData API token has only 'VIEW' permission on the workspaces your app needs to read to limit potential risks.
  • Remember that each GoodData connection uses a single API token, meaning all users accessing data through your app will effectively be using the same GoodData user's permissions.
  • This connector only works with GoodData Cloud, not the older GoodData Platform product.
