Usage limits and alerts

about 5 minBuildingchecked 2h agoOfficial page
The short version

You can set up rules to control how many credits your team or projects use, or to get a heads-up when your account balance is getting low. These rules can either send you a notification, stop usage when a limit is hit, or both.

Anyone managing a Lovable workspace on a paid plan needs this to prevent unexpected credit usage and manage costs.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Go to your 'Workspace settings' and then select 'Usage limits & alerts'.

This is where you'll find all the tools to manage your credit usage and notifications.

  2. 2

Decide if you want to set a 'Usage limit' (to cap spending) or a 'Balance alert' (to warn about low funds).

Usage limits help control how much is spent on specific activities, while balance alerts help you avoid running out of credits for your whole workspace.

  3. 3

If setting a 'Usage limit', choose what it applies to: your whole workspace, specific projects, individual team members, groups of members, or requests made using a specific access token.

This lets you apply rules precisely where you need them, whether it's for a single project or your entire team's activities.

  4. 4

Enter the credit amount for your limit or alert.

This is the point at which your rule will trigger, either by sending a notification or by stopping usage.

  5. 5

For 'Usage limits', pick the type of activity to watch (like 'Build' for creating apps or 'Run' for deployed apps) and how often it resets (daily or monthly).

This ensures your limit tracks the right kind of spending over the right time period.

  6. 6

Choose what happens when the limit or alert is triggered: get an email, an in-app notification, or stop the usage.

You can decide if you just want to be informed, or if you want Lovable to automatically prevent further spending once the limit is reached.

  7. 7

Save your new limit or alert.

This activates your rule, and Lovable will start monitoring your usage or balance according to your settings.

Paste this into your project

I need to set up a monthly usage limit for my 'Marketing Site' project. I want it to block 'Run' usage if it goes over 500 credits, and I also want to receive an email notification when it's blocked. Can you help me set this up?

Words decoded

Workspace
Your main account area in Lovable, where all your projects and team members are organized.
Credits
The currency you use in Lovable to pay for different services, like building apps, running them, or using AI features.
Access token
A special key that allows other programs or services to interact with your Lovable projects, often used for automated tasks.
Build usage
Credits spent on creating and editing your apps, using chat features, and generating images or videos within Lovable.
Run usage
Credits spent when your deployed apps are actively used, including hosting, backend services, AI features, and connections to other services.
Threshold
The specific credit amount or balance level that, when reached, triggers your limit or alert.

Where people get stuck

  • Setting a 'Cloud' limit (which pauses backend services) on a project can make your live apps stop working for users.
  • Adding more credits or upgrading your plan won't automatically lift a usage block; you need to manually adjust the limit or wait for the period to reset.
  • Usage might slightly go over your set limit before it's blocked because Lovable records usage first, then checks the limits.
  • Deleting a limit is permanent and will immediately lift any blocks it was enforcing.
