Remix a project

about 5 minBuildingchecked 4h agoOfficial page
The short version

Remixing a project creates your own independent copy of it. This lets you duplicate your work, start from a template, or move a project between accounts.

Anyone who wants to make a copy of a Lovable project for their own use, without affecting the original.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Go to the Lovable project you want to copy.

You need to be in the project to access its remix options.

  2. 2

Open the project's menu (often '⋯') from the dashboard, or go to 'Project settings' and find 'Remix project', or open the sidebar in the editor and hover over the project to find 'Remix'.

These are the different ways to start the remix process depending on where you are in Lovable.

  3. 3

In the 'Remix dialog', give your new copy a name, choose which workspace it should be in, and optionally select a folder.

This sets up the basic details for your new project copy.

  4. 4

Decide if you want to include the project's chat history, files from the 'Files' tab, or custom knowledge by checking the relevant boxes.

These options let you bring over more context and data from the original project into your copy, if you have edit access to the original.

  5. 5

Click 'Remix' (or 'Acknowledge and remix' for templates) to create your new project copy.

This finalizes the process and creates the independent copy of the project.

Paste this into your project

Hey Lovable, I want to make a copy of my current project. Please create a new project called "My New Project Copy" in my personal workspace. I'd like to include the project's chat history and any files from the 'Files' tab. Thanks!

Words decoded

Remix
To make an exact, independent copy of a project. Changes to the copy won't affect the original, and vice-versa.
Workspace
A personal or team area where your projects are organized.
Collaborators
Other people who have access to work on your project.
Secrets
Sensitive information like API keys or passwords that your project uses to connect to other services, kept separate from your code.
Custom knowledge
Specific information or data that you've added to your project to help the AI understand and respond better.

Where people get stuck

  • Remixing a project connected to an external Supabase project requires edit access to the original project.
  • If 'Public remixing' is disabled, others cannot remix your project from its link.
  • Remixed projects do not automatically carry over subscription-level features unless the new workspace's plan includes them.
  • Database data, secrets, custom domains, publish state, collaborators, and service connections are never copied during a remix.
  • A remixed copy does not stay in sync with the original project; it's a snapshot at the time of remixing.
  • Deleting a project is permanent; you cannot remix a deleted project.
