Revert and restore your project with version history

about 5 minBuildingchecked 4h agoOfficial page
The short version

Lovable automatically saves every change to your project as a version. You can look at past versions, go back to an earlier state, or mark important versions to find them easily later.

Anyone building a project needs this to fix mistakes or explore different ideas without losing work.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Open the History panel by clicking the 'History' button in the top bar or selecting 'Project → History' from the '+' menu next to the chat input.

This shows you all the past versions of your project.

  2. 2

Click on any version in the 'History' tab to see what your project looked like at that specific moment.

This lets you preview an older state of your app without changing anything in your current project.

  3. 3

To go back to an earlier version, click the 'Revert' button next to it and confirm.

This restores your project's code to that past state, letting you undo unwanted changes.

  4. 4

To save an important version for quick access, click the 'Bookmark' toggle next to it.

This adds the version to the 'Bookmarks' tab, making it easy to find stable releases or specific designs later.

  5. 5

If you want to try a different approach from a past point, hover over one of your old messages in the chat, click 'Edit message', change the text, and choose 'Revert and resend'.

This lets you restart from an earlier conversation point with new instructions, exploring alternative directions for your project.

Words decoded

Version
A saved snapshot of your project's code at a specific point in time, created automatically every time Lovable makes a change.
Revert
To go back to an earlier saved version of your project's code, undoing all changes made since that point.
Bookmark
A way to mark a specific version of your project as important so you can easily find it again later.
Diff
A comparison that shows exactly what lines of code were added, removed, or changed between two versions.
Edge functions
Small pieces of code that run very close to your users, making your app faster.

Where people get stuck

  • Reverting only changes your project's code; it does not undo any changes made to your database data.
  • You cannot revert only a part of a version; reverting restores the entire project to that state.
  • Very old versions might be viewable but not restorable.
  • Reverting does not refund credits, as credits pay for the work Lovable performed, even if you later undo it.
