Project comments

The short version

You can leave comments directly on elements in your project's preview to discuss changes and give feedback. These comments can also be sent to Lovable's AI to act on your suggestions.

Anyone working on a Lovable project needs this when they want to collaborate on design or functionality changes.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Click the 'Add a comment' button in the preview toolbar, or press 'C' to enter comment mode.

This prepares your project to accept new comments on its visual elements.

  2. 2

Click on any element in the preview where you want to add a comment.

This places a comment pin directly on that specific part of your project.

  3. 3

Type your comment in the text box that appears and press 'Send'.

This creates a new comment thread anchored to the element, visible to collaborators.

  4. 4

To send a comment thread to Lovable, type '@Lovable' in a comment or open the thread and press the 'Send to chat' button.

This sends the entire conversation about that element to Lovable's AI, allowing it to understand and act on your feedback.

  5. 5

To mark a comment thread as resolved, open it and click the 'Resolve' button.

This helps keep track of feedback that has been addressed, hiding it from the main view by default.

  6. 6

To allow people without project access to comment, enable 'Allow comments' when sharing a preview link.

This lets external reviewers provide feedback directly on your project without needing full access.

Paste this into your project

I want to add a comment to an element in my project's preview. How do I do that? Also, how can I send this comment to Lovable to act on it?

Words decoded

Preview toolbar
A bar at the top or side of your project's live view where you can find tools and options.
Comment pin
A small marker that appears on a specific part of your project's preview, indicating there's a comment thread attached to it.
Guest comments
Comments made by people who don't have full access to your project but are viewing it through a special shared link.

Where people get stuck

  • Do not expect comments to use credits; only sending a comment thread to Lovable's AI uses credits.
  • Do not expect comment pins to always stay perfectly attached if the element's position or the page structure changes drastically, as they might lose their original reference.
  • Do not expect guests to comment on a published app URL; they can only comment via a shared preview link with 'Allow comments' enabled.
  • Do not forget to enable 'Allow comments' for shared preview links if you want external reviewers to provide feedback.
