Generate files and analyze data

about 5 minBuildingchecked 4d agoOfficial page
The short version

You can ask Lovable to analyze data, create documents, or transform files directly in your project chat. It runs scripts to get the job done and gives you a downloadable file as a result.

Anyone who needs to analyze data, create reports, or transform files without writing code.

Do this, in order

  1. 1

Go to your Lovable project chat.

This is where you'll tell Lovable what you want to do with your data or files.

  2. 2

Upload the file you want Lovable to work with, or refer to data in your project's database or connected tools.

Lovable needs to know what data or files to process. You can attach files directly in the chat.

  3. 3

Describe what you want Lovable to do with the data or file, being specific about the format, structure, and content you expect.

Clear instructions help Lovable understand your request and produce better results, like 'Analyze this CSV and export the top 10 rows as an Excel file' or 'Generate a PDF report summarizing this quarter's metrics from my database'.

  4. 4

Review the generated file or analysis in the chat, or find it in the 'Files' tab of your project.

Lovable will provide the output directly in the chat, and you can download or further refine it.

  5. 5

If the result isn't perfect, ask Lovable to make changes or build on it in the same conversation.

Lovable remembers the context, so you can iterate and refine the output until it meets your needs, like turning a spreadsheet into a dashboard.

Paste this into your project

Analyze the sales data in my uploaded CSV and tell me the top 5 products by revenue. Then, generate a PDF report summarizing these findings with a cover page and a summary table, and save it as `q1-sales-report.pdf`.

Words decoded

Isolated environment
A secure, separate space where Lovable runs its scripts, so it doesn't affect your project's main code or files.
Source code
The human-readable instructions that make up your app or software project.
Database
An organized collection of information, like a digital filing cabinet, that your app uses to store and retrieve data.
CLI tool
A program that you interact with by typing commands, rather than clicking buttons.
Collections
Named groups of files within your project, helping you organize related documents or assets.

Where people get stuck

  • Don't expect Lovable to create files without a project; use 'Chats' for simple file creation outside of a project.
  • Be aware that Lovable's code execution can only access your project's database if 'Read database' and 'Change data' permissions are set to 'Always allow' in Cloud projects.
  • Avoid vague requests; be specific about formatting, structure, and desired output to get the best results.
  • Don't try to upload very large files on the Free plan; individual files are limited to 20 MB.
  • Remember that deleting a file from the 'Files' tab is permanent and cannot be undone.
