Design templates
Design templates let you reuse entire Lovable projects, including their design and setup, to quickly start new projects. This helps keep all your projects looking and working consistently.
Anyone on a Business or Enterprise plan who wants to ensure all their projects follow the same design and structure.
Do this, in order
- 1
Open the project you want to turn into a template.
You need to select an existing project to be the source for your template.
- 2
In the top right of the editor, open the 'Share' menu and make sure your workspace has access to the project under 'General project access'.
Templates must be accessible to your workspace to be used.
- 3
Go to the 'Project settings' for that project and turn on the 'Use as a template' option.
This officially marks your project as a reusable template.
- 4
To use your template, click the '+' button on the prompt box, then go to 'Design' and select 'Use a template'.
This is how you tell Lovable to build your new project using your chosen template as a starting point.
- 5
If you want this template to be automatically suggested for all new projects in your workspace, go to 'Workspace settings', then 'Templates', hover over your template, and select 'Set as default'.
Setting a default template streamlines the creation of new projects, ensuring consistency across your team.
Paste this into your project
Create a new project using the 'My Awesome Design' template. The project should be a landing page for a new coffee shop called 'Bean There, Done That', featuring a hero section with a warm, inviting image of coffee beans, a menu section, and a contact form.
Words decoded
- Codebase
- This refers to all the underlying files, instructions, and settings that make up a project, like its design rules, components, and how it's organized.
- Scaffolding
- This means the basic structure and initial setup of a project, like the empty folders and basic files that are put in place before you start adding your specific content.
- Workspace
- This is your main area in Lovable where you and your team manage all your projects together.
- Visibility
- This controls who can see and access your project. 'Public' means anyone can see it, and 'workspace' means only people in your team's workspace can see it.
Where people get stuck
- You cannot use design templates if you are not on a Business or Enterprise plan.
- A project cannot be set as a template if it's not publicly visible or visible to your workspace.
- You must be a project editor, admin, or owner to mark a project as a template.
- Only workspace admins or owners can manage default templates for the entire workspace.
